So I'm in the car with my son and a GD version of Scarlet is playing and he says "Hey, that's a Sublime song!" Knucklehead.

I think we've had this conversation before, and I still don't mind other artists interpreting Grateful Dead tunes to "make them their own". However, I do still hate what JA did to "Ripple", but then I am not a big fan of anything JA did.

Understood. I do like the way they start to head into the other one and their drummer, stephen perkins, is/was a deadhead. It's funny how many "alternative" and "punk" musicians totally dig the dead. For example, I know Larry Lalonde of Primus is (or was) a huge Garcia nut - he was at those JGB shows on top of Squaw way back when. Of course, these days the interaction/crossover between the Les Claypool/Primus and GD worlds is well established (Jay Lane, Jeff Chimenti, etc).

We did a couple versions of U.S. Blues live in the studio here:

And a couple nice live versions (first and last songs) at one of our shows here:

Sometimes note by note works when you have someone like Jesse singing. The fiddle licks are haunting and for me are what makes this interpretation stand out.....

This one is just plain old fun, takes all of 22 seconds for the bluegrass to take over
